My hope is in the Lord

I have surpassed my one-year anniversary working with BuildinGUATE! I am so blessed to be a part of this organization and seeing God actively working in the lives of our people. Here’s a brief run-down of the last year:

CONSTRUCTION: 4 new homes were built, 8 underwent upgrades, a clinic was started and is nearing completion, a small bath house was built with a new, large bath house breaking ground in the last weeks, a water tower was built that will soon provide fresh, pure water to our property and run to the street for the rest of the community, tons of work was done on the land to help with water run off and leveling in order to build more.

SCHOOL: We started Bible Classes in the school, provided 21 scholarships for kids, started a breakfast program twice a week, offered incentive packages to promote good attendance and grades, employed 3 of the 6 teachers at the school, and had the honor of being involved in numerous other projects and activities.

OTHER MINISTRY: We had a very large number of groups and individuals come serve alongside us last year. They often provided soup kitchens, children’s activities, medical clinics, and more. We held Bible classes for adults and children, continued with women’s ministry, and grew our relationships with the people living and working in this community.

It is absolutely amazing to see all that God has done in a year’s time. And 2017 is already off to a great start! A few months ago a new family moved into one of the houses on our property. Her name is Susana. She has 2 children, a 9-year old son named Angel and a newborn baby named Angela. With no father in the picture and coming from a rough background, she began to seek out a way to turn her life around. She has a good work ethic and jumped right in to helping out in the community. When we met her she had little interest in Christ, feeling anger towards Him for how her life had been. We have simply loved on her (which was very easy to do) and prayed. We prayed for her and with her many times, for direction, protection and for salvation. A couple of weeks ago she came to Oscar and I and informed us that she had accepted Christ as her Savior! YES! We as a team at BG are beyond thrilled and encouraged by this. This is what it is about! And when everything can get so stressful and busy and hard and scary and discouraging and we can’t see why … God gives us a beautiful gift, a moment of respite, of peace. He gives us an oasis in the midst of living in the wilderness.

Susana and Angela

2016 was a very good year filled with newness and the excitement of moving forward in ministry. It was also a year filled with some of the hardest times I have ever had to walk through. The Enemy was in full force this past year, causing trouble and confusion and doing his best to discourage us at every turn and make us fall. And as expected, it doesn’t look like he is going to  take any breaks or back off in any way this year. But I am prepared. As a team, BuildinGUATE is prepared. We will fight. And the Lord will win. Always.

Please, pray for us. Pray for protection from any and all attacks that come our way. We are in battle every minute of every day. Satan knows where to get at us and he is trying hard to bring us down. He is doing it within the ministry as well as in our personal lives, mentally, emotionally, with our health, whatever you can think of. We need the support and prayers of our brothers and sisters around the world. Pray for more salvations and that this community will become one for Christ. Pray that our Land of Hope will continue to be blessed and be a place of refuge to those in the community.

ROMANS 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.”

GALATIONS 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

ISAIAH 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
