These last few months have been filled to the brim with lots of activity. Since June we have had just over 30 groups come and visit BuildinGUATE. Through those teams we saw 28 soup kitchens (where we would normally only have been able to have 13), lots of kids ministry, container gardens built at the school, progress on multiple construction projects, and we were able to meet some truly amazing people.Having groups out to the BuildinGuate ministry site serves as a great source of encouragement to us. It keeps us excited and motivated when we see people with full and compassionate hearts experience our ministry for the very first time. We are so grateful for all you that have come and served with us and hope to see you again in the near future! Thank you for helping us accomplish the good work!
As I have written before, I have had the privilege to be one of the Bible Class teachers at the school. It has been a big challenge for me in different ways, but I have really started to enjoy it and look forward to it each week. I am teaching Pre-K through 2nd grade (80+ students enrolled in those grades) and little by little the kids are becoming more involved and I am praying they are retaining all the great things about God they are hearing. Before Guatemala I was never very drawn to children. My family can attest to that. I have always been awkward and unsure what to talk about with them. Then I came to Guatemala and things began changing. While I am still weird and awkward(see above photo), it is clear God has me here to work primarily with kids at this time.
For about two months now we have had Life Skills classes for the adults of the families that live on our property. In these classes they are learning about the importance of pure water, healthy foods, cleanliness, and more in a Biblically centered application. While the class is going on we have about 15-20 kids running around of all different ages (from 2-15). For the last three weeks I have started rounding them up and I read Bible Stories and then we color or play games. What I am noticing is that these kids on our property have almost no knowledge of any of these Bible stories. They don’t understand the concepts they are teaching. They don’t know about Jesus. God has laid it heavily on my heart, especially in this last week, that I need to use that time each week and really begin focusing on laying that foundation. I can think of a million excuses why I shouldn’t and I can give a list of people more qualified than me. But I know that God has told me to do it. So please, pray with me and for me. Pray that I can continue to earn the trust of these guarded children. Pray that God will begin to be real to them. Pray that Truth will soak into their hearts and minds. Pray that strong, God-fearing leaders with grow up from this group of kids. And pray that the enemy will be defeated in this community.
Deuteronomy 32:2 “Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants.”
Proverbs 22:6 “Start children off in the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
